p.m. this afternoon when it happened. a witness saw a white dodge ram hit the man and drove away. police stopped the driver. there is word the driver is cooperating with authorities. >> three men in contra costa county have been shot within one block of each other. all three shootings happened here highway 4 and l street. two 1 gunned down this morning. one of the victims was the stepson of a man who was shot and killed on saturday. a local pastor knew the man who died. >> a father, husband, dad and he loved to fish. i see him all the time.

deaths of a woman and a man gunned down in their home leaving behind their child. coming up, ktvu's christien kafton has been there all afternoon and he is talking to police, he will tell us what he learned. police are looking for whoever left a pipe bomb in front of a school. police got a call from pleasant hill elementary school at the same time students were dismissed. officers cleared the area and called in the police bomb squad who determined it was a pipe bomb. it appears that someone tried unsuccessfully to detonate over the weekend. a 16-year-old boy entered a guilty plea to the murders of his adoptive parents. they died in their home in january. he confessed to choking them to

how to handle the case against the man killing sierra lamar. the judge approved an amendment to join the cases together. he was also ordered to return to court on wednesday to enter a police in the kill -- plea in the killing of sierra lamar. prosecutors are trying to decide whether to seek the death penalty in the sierra lamar case. police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who disappeared. he is 6'1", 210 pounds, white hair and blue eyes. he was last seen saturday evening working on his tugboat. . president obama traveled to michigan today to try to sell his plan for pulling the country back from the fiscal

we have developing news right now. police issued an advisory because of what you are looking at here, a water main break that is causing traffic problems. the police advisory warned about a break at the intersection that is effecting traffic in the westbound direction. that began about 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. traffic delays are expected into had evening hours. two escaped a fiery big rig crash. >> paul chambers is live at the scene. >> reporter: happening right now, crews are working to get rid of the truck. part of it is here on the flatbed, the other part is

being taken apart. it was here delivery laundry when it hit the low hanging power lines. there is a discrepancy as to who owns the lines. >> reporter: this is all that remains as it hit the power lines, knocking it down and causing the truck to bust into flames. >> the person in the vehicle jumped out, cleared the vehicle. had they stepped out normally they would have probably got electrocuted. >> reporter: the call came around 3:30 a.m. this morning. crews found aa truck in a -- found a truck in a fire and surrounded by live wires. but firefighters had to wait an hour before pg&e arrived. >> we had a crew on scene in a half hour and immediately they went to work. >> reporter: pg&e supplies the power to the lines but say it

control. the truck driver was not injured. the skateboarder hit and killed by a suv last friday has been identified as scott hickerson. a woman was driving her suv when she hit him. he was on his skateboard going north in a crosswalk. yone with information about that accident is asked to call police. authorities are looking for a possible motive behind a shooting that left family members dead on a indian reservation. he shot his mother, daughter and two uncles saturday and wounded his two other children. this happened saturday. he was later killed in a shoot out with dep ates. he -- deputies. he was known to use drugs.

>> marijuana use is now legal in colorado. today colorado's governor declared a voter approved measure added to the state constitution. the measure won on election day. it allows adults over 21 to possess an ounce of marijuana or six marijuana plants. it also became legal in washington state last week. the majority of americans want the government to respect state laws allowing marijuana use. 64% of those asked said the government should allow marijuana use where it is legal. and according to the marijuana policy project lawmakers in four states, maine, v., new hampshire and rhode island plan to legalize american. quake struck northwest of

complete bay area news coverage continues right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 p.m. >> a gruesome discovery. a man and woman shot to death and the killer's left a witness behind. investigators say the couple's 4-year-old child was found nearby. ktvu's christien kafton is live at the scene where police ruled out one theory today. >> reporter: police responded after numerous 911 calls. what they found here on powell street was a man and woman shot to death, their child left orphaned. >> horrific crime. >> reporter: police say they began receiving the 911 calls yesterday afternoon that shots had been fired.

when they arrived they found the two dead from gun shot wounds. police found the child inside the apartment unharmed. police say it was not a murder- suicide but have little information about the killer or killers. >> at times people believe the tip they have isn't significant and it becomes a significant force. even if they just have a nickname or someone that heard something. >> reporter: investigators tell me they are looking for a motive in the case. no word if there was a robbery or if it was gang related. police say since it happened after midnight people out on saturday night may have heard or seen something. this is the 6th and 7th homicide of the year. the other five have been solved and tips and community
